The Hustings or Vote Loony Left
Watercolour: Signed and dated 1993
Image: 270mm x 345mm - Framed 490mm x 560mm
The term ‘Hustings’ refers to any event, such as debates or speeches, during an election campaign. In this painting the board clearly shows the sign “Vote Loony Left”, perhaps synonymous of Norman’s political leanings.
Norman produced two paintings on the same subject and although his political views were private he was disturbed, as many were at the time, about Tony Blair and the Labour Government taking Britain to war in Iraq
Norman made many of his political statements through his art as can be seen from the images of this on-line exhibition devoted to a brilliant artist and true friend
